Since my last update, we celebrated EK's second Valentine's Day. Those of you who know me know that I love holidays. I could spend way too much money in the holiday section at Wal-Mart, Target, Hobby Lobby, etc. With a little one, it's even more fun. I love buying little gifts for the holidays for EK! Hunter says I am a little "over-the-top", but I just can't help it! And I may or may not already have her Easter basket complete!
As I said before, EK is learning sooooo much. She knows a few body parts (ear, nose, knee). We're trying to teach her where her eyes are but she gets it confused with her ear most of the time. I try to blink my eyes and "squint" at her to try to get her to remember eyes, and she makes the most hilarious face back at me as she tries to copy me. She also knows how to blow a kiss (or at least hold her hand to her mouth). She hasn't yet learned to blow it away. She also does a funny squished up face when you tell her "Say Cheese."
With some of the warmer weather lately, EK has LOVED being outside. Usually when I pick her up from Mom, they are outside and as soon as we get home, she wants to be outside again. She calls it "kide". She doesn't mind bringing your shoes to you to let you know that she wants to go out either. We have taken her on many golf-cart rides over the past two weeks, which she loves. She even likes to help her Daddy drive. Watch out Reidsville!
She still loves "Ring-Around-the-Rosie" and will make herself VERY dizzy from spinning so much. She also knows what "stomp" means and will walk around stomping all over the place. Her Daddy has taught her how to "go fast" and she will take off running when you tell her that. Most of the time, she wants you to count to three before she does it.
She uses her sign language a lot- we didn't overdo it with teaching her signs but she does know a few like "more", "dog", "fish", and "eat". I love when she sees a dog on TV or outside and she pats her leg calling for it with the funniest "oooooooooooooooooo" sound. She also made up her own sign language by wiping her hands up and down when she's "all finished" eating.
I mentioned in my earlier posts how much EK loves the phone and can scroll through pictures and videos like a champ. She even knows which ones "play" and which ones are just pictures. Smart girl! She could sit there all day and watch videos of herself I do believe. She also loves watching videos of cats of Youtube. She's not as fascinated with birds as she used to be (thank goodness!). Now, she's starting to like squrriels and says "quuuuuu" when she sees them. I know she can't wait for her Papa Greg to start trapping them in his yard! :)
About two weeks ago, EK learned "I don't know". When we ask her where something is or where a certain animal is, she will hold up her hands like "I don't know" and look at us like we're crazy. And she loves to quiz us by pointing to things on videos, in the tub, outside, etc. for us to tell her what it is.
EK finally got another tooth (still no front teeth). Now she has four total. She loves brushing those four chompers at night, too! :) She hasn't had any trouble with irritability or fussiness with her teeth coming through and we are hoping it stays that way. She sleeps about two to three hours at nap-time around lunch and sleeps about 12 hours a night (sometimes more if it's the weekend). We lay her down around 7:45 p.m. and we wake her up around 7:00 a.m. during the week. On the weekends, she'll usually sleep until 9:00 a.m.. When we go in her room after her nap or when she wakes up in the morning, she loves to hide from us. She will crawl real fast to the other end of her crib and get in the corner. Such a silly little girl. We are thinking of transitioning her to her "toddler" bed while I'm on spring break. We will see how that goes. :)
I mentioned before that EK has started becoming a picky eater. She is finally picking up more of an appetite but is not big on meats. She could probably eat a chic-fil-a fruit cup everyday. She also loves green beans and corn. She loves breakfast food (especially pancakes) and is very spoiled at her Grandma & Papa Greg's. They cook her a homemade breakfast almost every morning!
Ella Kate's favorite thing to do these days is take a bath. I think she could stay in there for hours if we'd let her. She loves her alphabet letters and numbers and sticks them EVERYWHERE (all over her body included). She has some bath paint that she loves spreading all over the side of the tub, too. She likes to take her soap and turn the bottle upside down on her leg to "get clean". She's also learning that in order for things to stay UNDER the water, you sometimes have to sit on them- and sometimes the things you sit on don't feel very good to your bottom. That's another story! Don't ask me why, because I am NOT a Barney fan, but I recently decided to start singing the clean-up song from Barney when it's time for EK to get out of the tub. She surprised me the other night by standing up, using her hands to wipe the side of the tub (like she's cleaning) and even do a little booty shaking. She amazes me!
She definitely has us spoiled and we know we are probably in for it with the next one! We have been blessed with a beautiful, healthy, smart, and sweet little girl. Her laugh is the sweetest sound in the world and music to our ears. If you are friends with me on Facebook, you are sure to see lots of videos of her being silly and laughing. My favorite one is the one of me blowing a party blower at her. She could not stop laughing at it! One of the most special things that Ella Kate has learned lately is taking us by the hand and walking us to whatever she wants us to see or wherever she wants to go. I wish I could hold that little hand forever! We are loving every minute with our little one (even though she's not so little anymore). We go for EK's 18 month check-up over Spring Break (towards the end of April) and are also planning a trip to the zoo that week. We can't wait for her to see all of the animals. Not too long after that, I will have the summer off to spend with her and I absolutely cannot wait!
Here are some pictures from the last two months...
